How about buying a country store on Decatur Island?
Four years ago, the owners left the island to move to Hawaii where they could surf every day and wear flip flops in February. Prior to that, they built and operated Almas Country Store….a very fun gathering place which offered great milk shakes, ice cream cones and various food items and sundries to our island population. Year-round, Sandy made wonderful lunches that were served from noon to 1:00, five days a week. We never knew what she might fix so it was always a surprise. Her fried chicken with mashed potatoes was always a big hit as was her homemade pizza served every Sunday. I remember a particular pot roast she made that made me think I’d died and gone to heaven.
You really can be as creative as you want to be. There are a number of cottages and outbuildings on the property that could be developed into rental properties, galleries, garden centers or….?? In addition to the store offerings, you could expand into sports equipment rentals…i.e. kayaks, fishing gear, crab pots, etc., propane sales, gardening supplies, home decorator items or in whatever direction your skills and interests might take you.
We really need someone with vision and a comfortable income to come and re-open our country store. It has so many possibilities! We hope to find someone who wants to be an integral part of this very special community but isn’t dependent on the store for a steady cash flow. It will be very good in the summer but winters are, well….winter. We want this to be fun for you but if you’re “sweating about the money”, it won’t be. Don’t like to cook? No worries… I’m sure we can find someone to lease the deli from you if you want. We’ll help you do whatever you want to do.
Interested? Send me a note and I’ll get you all the details.
